My friend bought me about a week's worth of a PB and it won $7 from Indiana.   Will cash that out today.   It has two more drawings on it.

doing good NOT playing until the jackpots are $40 million.  Certainly $20 million would be nice, to me it is the principal of the 'blame it on the pandemic' mentality.  Two can play that game!

They raised the price of the tickets and $40M was an incentive.

The pandemic dropped it all back to $20M but we are now passed the pandemic but they have yet to go back to a $40M starting jackpot....

This past week, I matched Zero on the Tuesday and Friday MM and matched Zero on the Monday, Wednesday and Saturday PB.

But you know what, I am still in it.

Will head out and buy my QP for PB - one line three draws and one line two draws for MM.  As always adding the extra $1 - total ticket cost is $15 for the week.

A 5.9M win after taxes is a life changing amount for me.

Hitting 2nd prize would be life changing.

I would like to see my neighbor state Mississippi get one since they've only been in the lottery for a couple of years and they haven't hit a jackpot yet.

Mine too!  I could get a lot accomplished on a personal level with that.  I think of the bigger jackpot wins as being "me and my circle of loved ones".  The bigger jackpots mean considerable time going into careful management.  Smaller = fewer complications.  (usually, of course)

I have two bachelor's degree one statistics and one business finance. I love what I do but I do play the lottery hoping for the charlie buckett scenario where I can live in financial freedom why I'm young like many of us. I do believe in truly random with the lottery game and game of chance and that only applies if everything is truly fair. Now my question is from all the courses I've taken and understanding the odds 1-302 Million and every ticket have a random fair chance why is it one ticket that wins at top and you have not just 302 million tickets purchased across the country to match all probability combinations but more than that probably like 400 million tickets purchased but it's always one ticket that wins out of lets say 400 million combinations. How can that be? 🤔 Unless it's hundreds of millions of duplicates around the country of losing tickets and if that the case it's RIGGED and CONTROL. Because it should just be just as many second level millionaires and I'm talking about tens of thousands of millionaires matching 5 balls if truly random. Then you also have the delay drawing saying they need to get the final accurate numbers 🤔Y'all can say what you want but I understand numbers and took many classes on probability and random scenarios. It seems fairly obvious that the Quick Pick option must be programmed to not only spit out so called random options, but to also NOT produce DUPLICATE tickets with the exact same combination of five numbers and the powerball. Why else, in spit of the odds, would there not be, for example, 20 winning tickets?

The one winner of the huge Mega-millions jackpot in New Jersey recently selected their own numbers, which means that if not for that there would have been no top jackpot winner among the computer picked tickets.

So what's to do. I only play when the jackpot is about $850 million, purchase about 50 to 75 tickets without the multiplier. About 75 percent are numbers and powerball/megaball I select (covering all the powerballs or megaballs) and 25 percent are computer picked. Haven't won any major money yet, but did get my $100 back a couple of times.

That is a good point. Not all jackpot amounts can set someone for the rest of their lives, but some can put them in a good position so they won't have as many worries. It can get rid of debts and leave some aside for emergencies.

I saw an episode of The Lottery Changed My Life that involved a man who won $100k on a scratch off and he put it to good use. He had suffered from dental problems for much of his life, including having multiple root canals. His teeth caused him pain and looked terrible. He spent $45K on dental work that took care of all of that. Spending on that improved his physical and mental health so I don't think that money went to waste.

You are right, those smaller jackpots are nothing to be ignored.

Based on sales and recalling the fact that every drawing resets the probabilities, the most likely outcome of this particular drawing was that there would be NO winner (nearly 70%). However, "most likely" doesn't mean guaranteed because of....probability.

You don't need a QP machine conspiracy because every jackpot game has duplicates (losing + winning) due to the random nature of the lottery. You can figure this with the below formula:

When you plug in # tickets sold for this drawing, you can get an estimate around 18 MILLION duplicates. The actual number is likely higher due to the patterns/superstitions that players follow.

I don't believe the lottery is rigged (at least the non RNG games).  But, I will say that this is the 2nd time that Powerball has had to delay results.  The 1st time this occurred, there was a huge drop off in the rate of sales, and they still haven't recovered that volume from one draw to the next.  This is because of those that do believe that the lottery is rigged.  Powerball really isn't doing themselves any favors by having another issue with a delayed result unveiling.  This really makes me question whether or not they should be allowed to take this game on an international level and include other countries to participate collectively in the Powerball draw.

Bitcoin is up 70% in less than 3 months.   Anyone with a retirement account can now invest in bitcoin via a bitcoin ETF.   That's what I did in Jan 2024, and I'm up $140K from bitcoin alone.   Since it's inside a Roth retirement account, that increase is not taxed).    There is currently no fee associated with the ETF that I chose (Fidelity).  A low yearly fee (0.25% ?) starts in July.

I invested $600  into bitcoin outside of IRA accounts (via Paypal) in June 2023, and it's up 165%.   That increase of $990 is taxed when the bitcoin is sold.   It cost 1% ($6) to buy the bitcoin.

I had a 2+0 $2 lotto loss this last draw.   3 out of the 5 white balls (22 27 69) where in my top 10.   Because of the ultra low odds, I only dabble in State jackpot lottos when the jackpot after-tax present value is > $80M, or about $300M deceivingly advertised jackpot.

I will say this.... A 3-hour delay absolutely had an impact on who won and lost. Had the draw been on time those numbers certainly would not have been the winning set. The butterfly effect is real!!

Zip code 97218 is at the Portland Airport.  Could be someone traveling, living who-knows-where.

However, there is a residential section south of the airport, still in that zip code.

At least one previous PB jackpot. Oregon is also the only place that sold a jackpot winning ticket through a valet service. IIRC the winner was from Iran (possibly Iraq?) but I think the prize was too small to be PB or MM.

Your degree is statistics is apparently worth almost as much as your PB ticket for last Saturday. Once they sell 1% of the combinations what do you think happens with the next 10,000 tickets they sell?

It is simple. For  every $2 they collect they return $1 to players. About 68 cent of that gos to the handful of people who win a jackpot. Another 15 cents goes to the 2nd through 5th places prizes. That leaves 17 cents for every $2 you spend to give you a chance to win as much as $7 for every $1160 you spend on tickets. Maybe some of the people who don't have enough to pay for a $1000 emergency shouldn't be spending $2 because they think a 1 in 292 million chance of clearing $6 million makes sense.

A major part of the security and validation process is hoping to have video showing the person that walks in to the office also buying the winning ticket. It's still not a good security strategy to tell every grifter out there the answer to basic security questions. NY tickets put the date and exact time of sale on the ticket, which makes no sense to me. If the winner has played the same numbers before they can ask about that, but otherwise what  are they going to ask besides your spending plans?

I like to think that's the case. Assuming it is, the winners are all lucky there was a delay, and everyone else doesn't now if they "should" have won something.

I predict that yesterday the winning ticket holder bought themself a hot fudge sundae with cherry and nuts for toppings.
